This is a list of what we here at ThriceAllAmerican consider to be the some of the best restaurants in the Tacoma area.
It is a living, breathing list, in that it’s contents may change as we try new places and reconsider old favorites. We appreciate any comments or suggestions via our contact page.

Breakfast
- Old Milwaukee Cafe (3102 6th Ave, Tacoma): Great breakfast food, including delicious plate-sized pancakes. (See review.)
- Shakabrah Java (2618 6th Ave, Tacoma): Two words: Huevos Rancheros.
Cajun
- From The Bayou (508 Garfield Street): Wonderful atmosphere and food in…Parkland?
Chinese
- North China Garden (2303 Sixth Avenue, Tacoma): Good Chinese food, and they deliver.
- Also worth mentioning:
- Happy Dragon (5104 6th Ave, Tacoma).
Coffee Shops
- Blackwater (747 S Fawcett, Tacoma): Probably some of the best coffee in town, with free wifi to boot.
- Shakabrah Java (2618 6th Ave, Tacoma): One of our faves for atmosphere (and proximity to home).

- Firehouse Coffee (3518 6th Ave, Tacoma)
- Mandolin Cafe (3923 S 12th, Tacoma)
- Northern Pacific Coffee Company (401 Garfield St S, Parkland).
Italian
- Europa Bistro (2515 N Proctor, Tacoma): Charming Italian restaurant in the Proctor District.
Mexican
- Tacos Guaymas (2630 S 38th, Tacoma, plus other locations): Great authentic Mexican food for takeout or sit-down. Gigantic burritos.
- Vuelve a la Vida (5310 Pacific Ave, Tacoma): Awesome authentic Mexican food. (See review.)
Northwest Fusion
- Primo Grill (601 S Pine, Tacoma): Wonderful Northwest-gourmet food in the heart of the Sixth Avenue district.
- Ravenous (785 Broadway): Great little place across from the Pantages.
Pizza
- Cerello’s Pizza (4916 Center St, Tacoma): Great delivery pizza: (253)566-9000.
- Puget Sound Pizza (317 S 7th, Tacoma): All around good pizza with a good hole-in-the-wall atmosphere, just off of St. Helens. (See review of their breakfasts.)
- Rock Pasta (1920 Jefferson Ave, Tacoma): Technically “The Rock”, but it will always be Rock Pasta to us. Great wood-fired pizza and beer from Oly’s Fish Brewery.
- Also worth mentioning:
- Cloverleaf Tavern (6430 6th Ave, Tacoma).
Pubs
- Doyle’s Public House (208 St Helens Ave, Tacoma): Tacoma finally has an Irish pub! Great lively atmosphere, and they can pull a pretty good pint. (See review.)
- Engine House No. 9 (611 N Pine, Tacoma): One of the original brewpubs, the place locals refer to as “E9” is a great neighborhood pub in a converted early 1900s firehouse. Doesn’t hurt that we can walk there and crawl back home.

- Harmon Brewery (1938 Pacific Ave, Tacoma)
- Parkway Tavern (313 N I St, Tacoma)
- The Spar (2121 North 30th, Tacoma)
- The Swiss (1904 S Jefferson, Tacoma).
Sandwiches
- MSM Deli (2220 6th Ave, Tacoma): Best sandwiches around, and a killer selection of beers in the market to boot.
Seafood
- Bremerton Airport Diner (8830 State Highway 3, Port Orchard): Maybe this doesn’t even qualify as Tacoma-area, but this place seriously has the best fish and chips around. Worth the drive.
- Katie Downs (3211 Ruston Way, Tacoma): Pretty good fish and chips. But of course the real draw is the view…
Sushi
- Gari of Sushi (1209 S 38th, Tacoma): Probably the best sushi in Tacoma. Many creative rolls, and they don’t skimp on the fish. (See review.)

- Fujiya (1125 Court C # 1, Tacoma)
- Sushi Tama (3919 Sixth Ave, Tacoma, review)
Teriyaki
- Chin’s Teriyaki (2223 Pacific Avenue): Big portions of tasty teriyaki.
Thai
- Wild Orchid (3023 6th Ave, Tacoma): Summer basil salad is a delicacy, and they make a mean curry.
- Peanut Sauce (5003 Tacoma Mall Blvd, Tacoma): Not as good as the previous tenant of the space, Saigon Cafe, but they make a mean Pra Rahm.
Wine Bar
- Vin Grotto (813 Pacific Ave, Tacoma): Cute little downtown wine bar, great for a post-play/symphony/etc. nightcap.
Vietnamese
- Le-Le (1012 MLK, Tacoma): Good place for noodles.
- Mekong (2901 S 47th, Tacoma): An old favorite of ours.
Other
- Tatanka Take-Out (4915 N Pearl, Ruston): Awesome bison, free-range chicken, and vegetarian food. The flawless burritos (bison or tofu) are to die for.
